Exploring Hong Kong through the lens of health and economics

Form 5 students from the Economics and Health Management and Social Care disciplines participated in a guided tour which focused on the historical development of public health, eradication, prevention of infectious diseases at the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences. The professional explanations provided by the museum staff and the exhibits showcased in the museum deepened our students’ understanding of infectious diseases such as plague, smallpox, and SARS. Additionally, they also had the opportunity to acquire historical knowledge beyond what was covered in textbooks. This experience facilitated the integration of what they learnt in class with what they found at the museum.
